Equipment
Open Circuit
CCR will not need doubles or regs for doubles.
All other equipment will be required for CCR, plus off board whips.
This list is the absolute minimum equipment required for ALL advanced or technical courses.
New, more modern or changed technique may require additional equipment. Discuss this list with your instructor.
This list was generated so that the student could price equipment and understand the approximate total cost.
Cylinders
  • Recreational courses, including cavern: OW single cylinder of 80 cf or larger
  • Intro to Cave: single cylinder with Y or H valve, minimum of 80 cf

  • Advanced Nitrox or Technical Courses recommended or required:
    Doubled;  Aluminum 80 cuft  or double steel 100s cf or larger
    All back mounts must have Dual Orifice Manifold and Isolator

  • Stage(s): 1 or 2 al 40 cf or 80 cf bottle(s) only required for Advanced Nitrox and higher
    some courses may require 2 - 80 cf stage bottles plus deco bottle
    Note: only one second stage and one spg on each stage bottle or deco cylinder 1st stage
    Rebreathers require a offboard whip on stage bottle

  • Deco bottle with reg and spg. For 40% does not need to be O2 cleaned. For Tech. Eanx or Trimix courses O2 clean.
    Note: only one second stage on a deco cylinder 1st stage, one spg

  • Rebreathers require a offboard whip
Mounting
  • Technical: back-plate and Harness with Crotch Strap, wing style BCD lift should be minimum 40 -45 pounds  lift.
  • Recreational may use standard equipment with modifications as long as sufficient lift
Regulators

    Back mounted cylinders(preferably DIN 1st stages) set up as follows:
  • Right post: Primary 2nd stage on 5-7ft long hose & LP inflater hose
  • Left post: Backup 2nd stage on standard length hose & SPG only (no consoles).

  • Technical: 1 Stage bottle regulator (Din) and 1 Deco bottle regulator
Note: technical courses: only one second stage on each 1st stage, one spg and the minimum required lp inflater hoses.
Lights
  • Primary light with 35 - 50w halogen bulb or 10w hid (or greater)
    minimum 2.5 hrs of burn time or 2.5 times planned exit time
      
  • 2 Backup lights with burn time of 1.5 times planned exit time
Miscellaneous

  • Timer, Depth Gauge or computer w/ backups

  • cutting devices (no leg mounted knives) I recommend trauma shears.

  • 1 Primary Reel with 300 to 400 ft. of line

  • Backup Tables

  • pouch or pocket

  • 1 Safety Reel (only required for; Cavern, Cave, Wreck)

  • Slate & Pencil  

  • additional clips, bungee chord, surgical tubing, electric tie wraps and duct tape will be needed for modifications and
    retaining various pieces of equipment.

You should own and have all required standard OW gear also, including an exposure suit for the environment you are diving.
